Contributionism
Contributionism is based on the seminal work of Michael Tellinger. Healthy community is created by working together, by creating a sense of shared achievement. Basically, each village member provides 3 hours per week of service to the community in whatever capacity they choose. In return, they receive discounted food and events etc. In our Villages, projects and working hours are managed by an online app. Of course if you want to give even more hours, that is completely wonderful as well ;-).
Peaceful Community
Imagine a world where everyone was trained in NVC Communication Skills and basic Conflict Resolution techniques. At VivaGaia Villages everyone is provided with free ongoing education in Compassionate Communication and Conflict Resolution. It is an essential pre-requisite for all potential villagers to be trained in these skills PRIOR to joining the village. This is so, that whenever issues arise between villagers, there is an agreed-to protocol to go through to ensure creative win-win solutions.... thus ensuring a peaceful environment that enables the greatest amount of creativity and connection to be unleashed.
Sociocratic Governance

All groups or communities need effective governance structures, and Sociocracy is an efficient, non-hierarchical system that ensures everyone gets heard, and things actually get done. Sociocracy is a theory of governance that seeks to create psychologically safe environments and productive organizations. It draws on the use of consent, rather than majority voting, in discussion and decision-making by people who have a shared goal or work process.

Communities and Families that work together and eat together are strong and happy. Hence, each cluster of housing has its own community space where everyone is strongly encouraged to eat together at least once per week... where everyone shares in the shopping, cooking, preparation and cleaning up. Some people may choose to eat together EVERY night. People who dont feel enthusiastic about this idea , are unlikely to be motivated to join the village. There is also a larger community space for the whole village to hold meetings, and social and educational events, and house extra visitors.
